On Ecclesiastes 1:18

Why should enlightenment lead to happiness, anyway? If enlightenment means perceiving the truth, what if the truth were that the universe was not made for us? It might be inimical to us in particular because we have the ability to know we are going to die, or because for some strange reason we can disapprove of the fact that life feeds on other life. It will then be inimical to us because of our awareness. And yet we struggle for this awareness, or some of us do, we strive to know the universe. Ecclesiastes said it best: “For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.”
