There’s None So Deaf……

Zadie Smith writes that men complain about bimbos, while at the same time it is men who have made the bimbos what they are — “it is they who said she was sweet when she was five and patted her on the head. It is they who said that when she was 12 she couldn’t run around outside, because then she would get her dress dirty.” Really? It is fathers who are concerned with little girls’ dresses getting dirty? Perhaps it was the father who did all the laundry in the Smith household. Has she really and truly never heard a million mothers shrieking about dirty dresses, or has she simply followed her sulks off the edge of the real world?
