The Language Of Command

It is one of the deepest assumptions of our culture that displayed emotions are both real and spontaneous emotions. This serves to demonstrate that the deepest assumptions of our culture are not in fact patriarchal at all, but rather gynocratic. For any doubt as to whether these things called emotions truly are real and spontaneous would be extremely damaging to female techniques for controlling social relationships. Men have been brought up to obey, or at least to pay attention, whenever confronted with a female emotion; it follows strictly that anybody desiring male attention and obedience will do well to produce this thing called “emotion” as required. It is what the military would call “the language of command”, and whoever wastes his time speculating whether a commander’s order is a real and spontaneous expression of his true heart?
