Rockabye Games Arcade

In 2010 it was reported that a South Korean couple “fed their infant daughter so little that she starved to death. Instead of caring for the child, the couple spent most nights at an internet café, sinking hours into a role-playing game in which they raised, fed and cared for an infant daughter.” This will doubtless be held up as an example of the evils of the Internet, which is just precisely the wrong conclusion. We should instead be grateful to the Internet for showing us how having children of flesh-and-blood is in fact a role-playing game. Human beings are brought into the world in much the same spirit as avatars are chosen and equipped for tasks with the ultimate intention of scoring points. The couple merely preferred one entertainment over another, probably because it had fewer bugs.
