Love, Celebrities And Actual People

It is a cliché that sports and entertainment celebrities are the aristocracy of our day; that is certainly true in terms of fashion leadership, the public gaze and so forth. But if this is true, we might expect it to follow that all their marriages are arranged so as to achieve synergies between economic empires. One can imagine managers haggling over a marriage contract between this lucrative pop star and that rising sportsperson, to be followed by a publicity-rich divorce on such and such terms. It is somewhat paradoxical, considering that entertainers also present themselves as the experts on romance and passion, and are generally so accepted by the ordinary people – the only ones who really do marry for love.
