Who Is Angry?

Listen – really listen – to the preacher shouting “The Lord is angry!” then ask yourself how likely it is that he is saying something about the world beyond his own endocrine organs. No, it is all just too transparent. The wires running behind the Wizard’s curtain lie in plain sight. We might as well assume that “I have toothache!” is a theological proposition. The enemies of God mean the preacher’s personal enemies, which identification serves to justify his having and making them; indeed, the more the merrier, since their hatred means that he is truly serving God. What proposition is excluded by attributing disapproval and enmity to one’s zeal for the Lord? Why, that people may disapprove of you and be hostile because you are an arsehole.
